I have been on the look out for unique atmospheric conditions as a part of my research for the National Maritime Museum project and it didn’t take long to find them. On a visit to Trygghamna Bay I witnessed a natural phenomenon that I have never seen before, a monochromatic rainbow. This far north, water droplets in the air freeze so the light reflects rather than refracts, unlike a regular rainbow. This manifests in pure white arches of light, which are pretty spectacular.
The weather conditions change very quickly here. Huge clouds of fog enveloped the bay from nowhere, making it difficult to see more than a few meters. As the fog cleared fragments of the landscape reappeared in the most unexpected ways. Mountain tops jumped out of the sky hovering impossibly, taking everyone by surprise.
