Inge Thomson
Joins the expedition for week 2
Inge Thomson comes from the tiny isolated island of Fair Isle. She grew up singing and playing the accordion with her musical family before cutting her gigging teeth with folk-pop quintet ‘Drop the Box’.
More recently she formed contempo/trad band ‘Harem Scarem’ winning critical acclaim for her songwriting and vocal prowess. A band collaboration with Will “Bonnie Prince Billy” Oldham culminated in a sell out tour and 5 star live album. Inge is currently employed as a multi instrumentalist by the multi-award winning songwriter Karine Polwart, with whom she has made numerous TV and radio appearances and tirelessly toured the world.
2010 saw a great response to Inge’s debut solo album ‘Shipwrecks & Static’

A recipient of a ‘Year of Natural Scotland’ award in conjuction with Fair Isle Marine Environment and Tourism Initiative, (FIMETI) Inge has been commissioned to write a body of works inspired by the fishing grounds around Fair Isle titled ‘Da Fishing Hands’. She will work closely with her cousin, master lyricist, Lise Sinclair to produce an hours worth of songs and instrumentals highlighting the changes in the surrounding waters and the detrimental effects on sea life, bird life and island culture.
