Sarah Fortin

Sarah Fortin studied Cinema at Université du Québec à Montréal, where she directed her first short film, Deux enfants qui fument (Two Smoking Kids) in 2004, who had a successful career in the circuit of national and international festivals. In 2008, she released the short film Synthétiseur (Synthesizer) who won best picture and best director at Air Canada enRoute Film Festival in 2009 and Le fleuve à droite (Good Night Truck) in 2010, Jury Prize at the Off- Courts festival in Trouville-sur-Mer, France and Maneki Neko price for Best Screenplay at Ozu Short Film Festival in Sassuolo, Italy in 2011. She is currently writing a feature film.
After directing her first documentary in 2006 about a diction and phonetic teacher in a theater school (Huguette Uguay, l’envers de Madame Bec-Sec), she released J’m’en va r’viendre (I Ain’t Gonna Leave), a film about Quebec’s country-folk singer Stephen Faulkner, in 2011. The film has won wide critical acclaim in various Quebec media during its theatrical release and was screened in several film festivals. In 2012-13, she worked on a web documentary for the National Film Board of Canada called Ici chez soi / Here at home, about mental illness and homelessness. She is currently developing several documentary projects for film and television.
She as been a director-teacher at Wapikoni mobile for several years, a travelling studio that offers audiovisual and music training workshops to Indigenous youth living in remote Quebec communities. She also works as an editor for television and film. Alongside her film career, she developed a passion for photography. Her photos have been used for movie posters and album covers and she is preparing her first photography exhibition for november.
