Woah there, Frank.

When I last checked singer songwriters were entitled to the same free speech as you and I. Some might say their primary function is to challenge preconceptions and to make us think. The only way to truly 'crap in your kitchen' is to bow to people who would seek to limit free speech.

Enjoy the show on the 18th.

Robyn, Perhaps the melting ice will give victorian squid a new place to frolic. You made statements in your "Storefront Hitchocock" shows about mocking peoples religions and how that is very dangerous. Not soon after the U.S. was attacked very near to where those shows were taped. Lately it seems you always manage to take jabs at Christianity and Catholics. I wonder if one can learn from their own words? When musicians play political and religious advocates & critics I think it is the equivalent of crapping in their own kitchen. I think you had a theory about how their isn't a two tiered sewer system and all our crap winds up in the same place. Does it really?? Looking forward to hearing your music in Alexandria on the 18th.

Hi Robyn,

Thanks for the riviting icy reports.

I like your slug trail theory very much: 'art & garbage'(and perhaps stones?) being all that remains. This seems a profound notion.

It made me wonder what art will mean when this world has thawed and then re-frozen a million times and we finally slide like a hissing ice cube into the chamber of the sun.

It must be a struggle for an artist like yourself to see crumbling iceburgs not merely as a metaphor for the fragility of art but for what they are: ice becoming water in an inexorable process. I know how art likes to endure and reflect upon itself even in the face of ice and fire. You seem to be facing the reality, though, and describing it perfectly - for that I salute you, sir.

The fluid from which we are born (swimming) and the ether of the skies seem to meet where you are there at the Pole. I hope it is not too cold a place and that any neccessary freezing takes place beyond that fearsome red woolen hat of yours rather than inwards to the heart.

Good luck from southern England. Bring back the art in the form of an icicle cathedral - or maybe a glittery shoal of songs.

Goddess bless.

Robyn...

I do projection and photography. Do you think projecting images on icebergs would work? I went to sleep thinking I could take photo's here - of things we humans do/use that create global warming - and, project them on to the icebergs, taking video & film of them. I would project text, too. "Stop Global Warming, Control Emissions - Wear a Condom" "Hurricane Hummer, Hurricane Landcruiser, Hurricane Navigator, Hurricane Discovery, Hurricane Pathfinder, etc" Pictures of SUV's, Jets, Large diesel trucks projected with the text "weapons of mass destruction" and then...I could do calendars, T-shirts, and bumper stickers and youtube videos and so on out of it. It would be lovely to take a train across canada get most of the way there. But so, what do you think...do you think images can be projected? Will need a strong xenon bulb! Perhaps someone has done it already. I would do it from the ships deck, at night, under anchor. Cheers Birdie

You uprights have a "walk the walk - talk the talk" saying (I can do neither). I hope this insprirational prose encourages you to do the former. Fins up!

Although you are thousands of miles away, each ice cube here is a reminder of your journey. I respect your perspective immensely and look forward to your next update.

P.S. Great Photo!

as a wise man once said (or it may have been a Far Side cartoon) don't lick a glacier.
I have stood on a glacier and stared into the fissures, wondering about what it would be like to fall and be consumed by the ice, plopping out centuries later. Now i'd get out the other end still alive.
I don't think there is a word that describes the colour of them either. apart from wow.
