sitting here at my desk in Television Centre London. I just completely envy you. If I had been asked whether I would swap this for "winds so cold they make it difficult to breathe" I would have declined but all the blogs nd the pictures and the work make me realise that what you're doing there in bringing the extraordinary world and change to our attention is startling. Well done! jonp

I have always liked your sharp wittiness Mr Brigstoke!!!!!! I am sure Jeremy Clarkson feels the same way and will be delighted to have you for a seal-based dinner when you come back...

As for your (quite harsh) remarks about people accusing you of polluting the planet while trying to "fix it", well...you've got to understand where they all come from. While you stand on a boat in the middle of the Artic surrounded by natural beauties and interesting people telling us about how amazing the whole thing is, the rest of the world have to face up to the reality of living in a largely ignorant society where people think that educating their children to respecting the environment is about showing them a couple of episodes of Pingu. Ignorance is well spread. It goes straight across the spectrum of every society. Young generations are (almost) as ignorant as the older ones regarding climate change and sustainaibility; middle classes are as ignorant as the working classes – though they like to think of themselves as eco-friendly because they eat “nice” pre-packed organic food while driving their children to a nearby school (in a massive SUV) where they get fed on chocolate and crisps. (Note: this is applicable to England, not to Italy. In Italy people show off their ignorance in a different, but equally effective, manner).

As I said in a previous post, I don't think there is any hope for mankind. We are just another specie that is dealing with its own evolution path – i.e. overpopulation leading to the worsening of its habitat. This is no excuse for wasting resources and polluting the planet. Nevertheless, it is a fundamental factor that cannot be ignored as it reduces the chances of succeeding.

I suppose the one consolation is that time’s up for Jeremy Clarkson....unless he decides to give up his beloved Ferrari for a nice electric fishing-boat...
