David Hinton
Film Director
David Hinton is a director of arts documentaries and performance films. He worked for ten years on The South Bank Show, where he made documentaries about artists of all kinds - including Francis Bacon, Alan Bennett, John Cleese, Bernardo Bertolucci and Little Richard. He has also directed television versions of stage shows, and collaborated with choreographers to create dance works specially for TV. He has twice won BAFTA awards for his documentaries, and his dance films have won many awards including an Emmy and a Prix Italia.
Art From the Arctic, a 60 minute film directed by David Hinton, first broadcast on BBC FOUR in February 2006 as part of Climate Chaos - a major season of BBC programmes on the science behind and issues surrounding climate change. The film co-produced with the BBC has now been seen internationally by a worldwide audience of over 12 million, broadcasting on BBC 2 and BBC 4 (UK), BBC World (international) and Sundance TV Channel (USA) and has screened at film festivals across the world.
A DVD of the film is now available to buy from Cape Farewell priced £15. Witness the artists’ response to the harsh environment and their take on the very visible impacts of climate change on the extraordinary yet vulnerable Arctic landscape.
