Professor Genoveva F. Esteban is an international scientist in microbial biodiversity, primarily focusing on protists in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Her research delves into the diversity and abundance of microorganisms, their adaptation to changing environments, rare species, and the use of the microbiome as an indicator of ecosystem health and sustainability. Her work influences conservation practices and leads to the discovery of new microbial species.

As a STEM Ambassador, Genoveva actively engages in public outreach, receiving national awards for promoting science to schools and the general public. She serves as a Board Member for Cape Farewell, is an expert reviewer for the European Union, the European Research Council (ERC), and for several European nations. Additionally, she is a member of research advisory panels for UK’s learned societies, the BBSRC Biological Diversity Expert Working Group, and the Wessex Multi Academy Trust.
