Dr Valborg Byfield joined Cape Farewell on our first Arctic expedition in 2003, sailing with a group of scientists, educators, artists and journalists on a voyage from Tromsø to Spitsbergen via Bear Island.

She is a senior scientist at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, with a degree in educational psychology and a PhD in oceanography specializing in ocean colour and the monitoring of oil pollution.
